Acceptable Photo Guidelines:

  • Must be a color photo.
  • Photo must be in jpg format.
  • Greater than 1000x1000 pixels (see note, below)
  • Full face, uniformly lit with no reflections or shadows
  • Plain, light-colored background
  • Look directly into the camera.
  • Photo of head & shoulders with some of the background showing.
  • Plain background which is white or very light in color. (No patterns or objects in the background.)
  • You must have the image saved on a disk or your hard drive as a JPEG type (this is a file that ends in .jpg or .jpeg). This is the common format for most digital cameras. If you are using a traditional film camera, many photo-labs will now convert the image to a digital one on a disk for a very small price.
  • If scanning a photo, scan at 300 dpi and save the entire photo, even it shows more than the head and shoulders.
  • Helpful ideas for a good photo:
    • To avoid reflection on eyeglasses, stand several feet (1.5 to 2 meters) from camera.
    • To avoid shadows around face, stand several feet (1.5 to 2 meters) away from the wall behind you.

Note: The pixels of your photo can be found by right-clicking the filename and selecting 'Properties' (Windows and Linux) or 'Get Info' (Apple).
